A Delicious DIY Christmas Gift They'll Love!

Posted on

BY MICHELLE SURSOK

The festive season is always a busy and often expensive time of year. When it comes to Christmas gift lists, if you are anything like me, you start running through what you have given before, what they have, what they don’t have, what they would like, etc. It’s exhausting! And in the end, you can find yourself heading to the go-to scented candles or grabbing a gift voucher out of desperation!

Well, hopefully, I can give you an idea that is not only thoughtful but useful, sustainable and pretty and yummy to boot!

I’m talking about mason jars filled with healthy goodness.

It’s like a homemade version of a boxed cake or cookie mix but 1,000 times better. Grab a jar, get creative with ribbon or string, add a tag that with basic instructions, fill it with ingredients and voila! Best gift ever, oh so easy, and delivered with maximum impact!

Your recipient can reuse the jar and maybe be inspired to create their own and return the favour.

Here is an idea to get you started:

POWER/BLISS BALL JARS

The options here are endless. There are so many recipes online and the best bit is that you pretty much throw everything in a blender, blitz, then roll. Easy for you, easy for the recipient!

Here is my Christmas Inspired Bliss Ball recipe:

Cranberry and Macadamia Balls

INGREDIENTS

1 cup desiccated coconut

1 cup raw macadamias

¾ cup raw pecans

½ cup dried cranberries

METHOD:

Using a 700ml mason jar, layer each ingredient one by one in the jar, whichever way you desire. I put the coconut on top because it looks like snow, however, if you don’t want it to rain down on the other layers, put the coconut at the bottom.

TO ADD:

1 tsp vanilla bean paste

OPTIONAL:

1-2 tbs honey (I like it as is but if you prefer sweeter, then taste and add honey)

Extra coconut or raw cacao for rolling

WRITE THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE TAG:

Combine ingredients of jar along with vanilla bean paste and honey.

Blend in a high-speed blender until mixture comes together.

Roll about 1 level tablespoon into balls.

Roll in additional coconut or cacao.

Refrigerate.

Enjoy!

Makes 24 delicious balls.

GOOD BITS

RAW MACADAMIAS

Macadamias are packed with micronutrients and monounsaturated fatty acid so there are lots of vitamins and minerals in each serve. They are also good sources of calcium, B6, fibre, magnesium, zinc, potassium, selenium, copper and iron.

DRIED CRANBERRIES

These little beauties contain the same nutrients as the fresh berries, they are high in dietary fibre and antioxidants.

RAW PECANS

Other than being super yummy with a nutty, buttery texture, pecans also help with decreasing bad cholesterol and increasing good cholesterol, which is important for heart health. Pecans are also high in fibre and B group vitamins which help with digestion as well as containing magnesium which has been shown to decrease inflammation.

RAW CACAO

Again, another amazing discovery by the Inca’s! They called it the ‘drink of gods’. Raw cacao has been shown to have 40 times the antioxidants of blueberries, is high in iron, contains more calcium than cow’s milk, contains good amounts of magnesium, balances hormones and is a natural mood elevator among other things.
